And the award goes to...

- We are very pleased that the work was selected for the best demo award. It was a great experience and a valuable recognition of the quality of the ebbits project, especially when there were other impressive demos being presented. The demonstrator has drawn the attention of many people and we were continuously presenting it even after the session, say Hussein Khaleel and Prabhakaran Kasinathan from Istituto Superiore Mario Boella (ISMB) who were in charge of presenting the paper at the poster session.

The demo paper, titled Demo: Dependable and Scalable Multi-Radio Networked Embedded System, describes a system prototype of a Wireless Sensor and Actuator Network (WSAN) featuring an intrusion detection system integrated in a multi-radio communication network.

- The prototype integrates the ongoing ebbits work on security, in particular the Intrusion-Detection System (IDS) and its integration into multi-radio communication environments. The IDS consolidates 6LoWPAN communications against different kinds of denial-of-service attacks and can assist in performing the relevant counter measures. More specifically, the developed component responsible for security management fuses information coming from the IDS adopting multiple probes and the network manager that provide network performance data. This enables a higher detection accuracy and provides the relevant warning events to the network management function of ebbits.

- The overall system prototype leverages on multi-radio communications capabilities, where the existence of multiple wireless technologies can enrich the communication with an elevated level of reliability which is necessary for driving industrial processes, Hussein Khaleel and Prabhakaran Kasinathan explain.

The paper was authored and submitted by Hussein Khaleel, Prabhakaran Kasinathan and Claudio Pastrone.
